Cathedral Quarter

BUILD YOUR belfast HEN

From traditional Irish boozers to banging modern bars to mega clubs, the Cathedral Quarter has it all.

The Cathedral Quarter is 100% Belfast’s most iconic neighbourhood to grab a drink in as you simply can’t move for bars. Here you'll find both traditional Irish pubs and modern bars with huge beer gardens and acoustic music. Come and grab a Guinness and immerse yourself in an atmosphere like no other.

Let's get started.

1. Sunflower Public House

65 Union St , Belfast, Belfast BT1 2JG

Sunflower is a simple pub without all of the bells and whistles you might expect from modern bars. It’s also insanely popular with both locals and visitors. Instantly recognisable from the security cage on its front door, which is a relic from 1980’s Belfast, this iconic pub does local craft beer as it should be done (for example Yardsman which is brewed in Belfast). It also hosts live music and has a beer garden with a pizza oven.

2. 39 Gordon Street

Now we’re off to 39 Gordon Street that’s more cocktail focussed, but you can of course still enjoy a pint if that’s what you fancy. If you can time this for happy hour, then 39 Gordon Street does some great deals on both cocktails and pints. They also do some fabulous Mexican food, so you can line your stomachs with a taco or two before things get really messy. Often there will be live music playing and there’s nice booths to relax in.

3. Duke of York

7-11 Commercial Ct , Belfast, BT1 2NB

The interior of Bier Keller, Newcastle, with wooden benches and seats

Visiting The Duke of York is a great excuse to pose for a picture next to the iconic umbrella art instillation. This was actually commissioned by the venue itself. This buzzing cobbled alley that’s chocka with art, is a Belfast must-see for sure and is super instagrammable. Self-described as ‘an institution round here’ The Duke of York gives you a real flavour of Belfast with old Belfast photos, live music and quirky décor.

4. The Dirty Onion and Yardbird

3 Hill St, Belfast, BT1 2LA

The interior of Bier Keller, Newcastle, with wooden benches and seats

When you’re thinking of a good night out, the phrase ‘Dirty Onion’ is probably the last thing on your mind, but we can vouch for this awesome venue that has two bars, one of the biggest beer gardens in Belfast and a rotisserie chicken restaurant (oh yeahh!). Housed in Belfast’s oldest intact timber-framed building, The Dirty Onion has a cozy peat fire and boasts live entertainment seven nights a week. This ranges from traditional Irish music to contemporary bands.

5. Ollie's Belfast

35 - 39 Waring St, Belfast, BT1 2DY

The interior of Bier Keller, Newcastle, with wooden benches and seats

The best way to finish a bar crawl is with entry to a club. Ollie’s is an incredibly popular nightclub; we would recommend for this one as there’s almost always queues out of the door. It’s no surprise everyone loves Ollie’s with word class DJs who play the best disco, house, hip hop and RnB. Plus, the nightclub itself is super stylish with exposed brickwork and super cute art décor.

If you fancy checking out the unrivalled atmosphere of the Cathedral Quarter, check out the fabulous Belfast hen do packages we offer.

Aslo, FYI, one of the Belfast hen do activities we offer is a guided bar crawl around the Cathedral Quarter (which is different to this one). This has the bonus of having a local, knowledgeable guide who can show you around. So, if you're interested in checking out the great bars here, it might be worth sticking that on your itinerary.
