Top Reasons to Visit Budapest Jewish Quarter |
---|
| Bars - The Jewish Quarter is alive with a new wave of ruin bars. |
| Restaurants - If Medieval banquets and eating sushi off a naked woman is your thing, youβre in the right place. |
| Music - Live DJs, theatre performances, music concerts and performances can be found in every ruin bar. |
| Shopping - Some of the biggest ruin bars have farmerβs markets, bike shops and even thrift stores within them. |
| Art - Graffitied walls, sawn-off Trabant seating and bric-a-brac decorating every surface is enough art for us. |
Also known as District 7 (Jennifer Lawrence not included), Budapestβs hipster Jewish Quarter is where youβll spend the majority of your stag do. Filled with new age ruin bars, this district is seriously popular with visitors who want to sample a slice of true Hungarian nightlife.
No matter whether youβre after a wild night out or just a few day drinks keeping you topped up between activities, the Jewish Quarterβs ruin bars have everything you could wish for on your stag do. The quirky ruin bars on offer in this district occupy formerly dilapidated buildings, squares and courtyards, and will sweep you up in a misty haze of outdoor drinking, eccentric upcycled seating and wallet pleasing prices.
The Jewish Quarterβs streets are lined with back to back ruin bars. Previously dilapidated, these buildings, squares and courtyards have been revamped into cool, edgy bars. Weβll see you there.
01. Szimpla Kert
http://en.szimpla.huBudapest, Kazinczy u. 14, 1075 Hungary
As far as ruin bars go, this one is szimply the best (and not only because we can make that joke every time we talk about it), it really is the βMeccaβ of all ruin bars. This huge, former factory has been transformed into an open air cinema, live music venue, theatre events space and massive bar. Thereβs unusual bric-a-brac lining the walls and ceilings, and those sawn-off Trabant seats are worth writing home about.

A roof made entirely of glass and a floor of white pebbles make this one of the brightest ruin bars in the district. Nestled right in the centre of the Jewish Quarter, the aptly named Mazel Tov is an Aladdinβs cave β deceptively small and deserted looking from the outside, but huge once you cross its red tape. Unfurling like a mystical maze, this urban, recreational cultural space is a casual spot where you can grab a bite to eat or top up on your speciality beer. It even hosts the annual Jewish Summer Festival in May.

All the perks of a rowdy stag do bar, but you wonβt miss out on the live sport either. Cheers to that. As with any good sports bar, thereβs pool and billiard tables, dart boards and table football to keep you and the lads occupied at half time. Plus, a beer is going to cost you around a quid, so you canβt really go wrong.

In a district where beers and froccs are seriously popular, this cocktail bar is a welcome addition to the Jewish Quarter. Showcasing specialist shots in medicine bottles and periodic tables lining the walls, the bar takes on a playful side of drinking, offering state-of-the-art drinks with a chemical twist.
